The FedExCup Playoffs are the culmination of the PGA Tour season, where the world’s best golfers compete for the prestigious FedEx Cup title and a massive bonus purse. Introduced in 2007, the playoffs reward season-long consistency while delivering high-stakes drama across three events.
The Top 70 Players in the FedEx Cup standings qualify for the first playoff event, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, held at TPC Southwind. No cut is in place, allowing all competitors to earn crucial points. After this event, the field is reduced to 50 Players for the BMW Championship, played at rotating venues known for their demanding layouts. Only the Top 30 advance to the season finale, the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
At the Tour Championship, players start with staggered strokes based on their FedEx Cup ranking, with the No. 1 seed beginning at -10 under par and others positioned accordingly. This Starting Strokes format was introduced in 2019 to create a clear winner without complicated points calculations.
The FedEx Cup Champion claims a $25 million bonus, making it the richest prize in golf. Past winners include legends like Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler, showcasing the calibre of competition.
