Shriners Hospitals Open Winning Formula

TPC Summerlin is a 7,200+ yard Par 71 which was designed in 1992 by Bobby Weed with PGA Tour veteran Fuzzy Zoeller serving as a consultant. The course incorporates traditional golf design with the natural desert terrain of the region.

TPC Summerlin is one of the easiest Par 71’s every year. There is plenty of room off the tee, the greens are large and receptive and the tournament always produces a low-scoring birdie-fest The average winning score since 2008 is -20.

Cantlay’s game tee-to-green laid the foundation for his victory with more than three quarters of his strokes gained coming in the Strokes Gained Tee-To-Green category. In particular he drove the ball long and well from the tee topping the pile for Strokes Gained Off-The-Tee. This yielded a gain of 5.032 strokes for the tournament. The 25 year old finished the week 13th in Driving Distance, T5 for Driving Accuracy, 17th for GIR and 9th in Putts per GIR.

Na’s victory was all about his putter. He finished with negative strokes gained in 3 of the strokes gained categories for the week. However, he topped the field for Strokes Gained Putting, gaining a whooping 14.176 strokes. This accounted for the entire of his overall net strokes gained for the week. He set the record for most feet of putts made in a 72-hole tournament since the PGA Tour started tracking statistics with ShotLink in 2003.
