CIMB Classic Betting Tips

CIMB Classic betting tips & predictionsCIMB Classic betting tips & predictions – this is the ninth staging of the CIMB Classic. It is also the sixth year that the tournament will award FedEx Cup points and official earnings on the PGA Tour.

The event is co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour for which a minimum 10 spots in the field are reserved. The field is limited to 78 players and there is no cut.

The tournament is currently played on the West Course at TPC Kuala Lumpur which is located just 8 kilometres from the heart of the city. The West Course opened for play in 1991 and was designed by Nelson Howarth. The layout was completely redesigned by renowned international golf course architects E&G Parslow in 2008.

The West Course is a Par 72 that stretches to 7,005yards. It is a parkland style course with a sparse covering of trees. There are water hazards in play on 13 holes. The course has some elevation changes and features immaculate fairways and greens.

By Tour standards the layout can be best described as short and scoreable.

This week players will need to be hitting plenty greens in regulation, scoring well on the Par 5’s and keeping unforced errors to a minimum. The average winning score for the tournament is -21 so a fast start is imperative.

Last year, Pat Perez cruised to a four stroke victory at the CIMB Classic for his third PGA Tour win. Perez led by four strokes after the third round and a -3 (69) final round was enough to get the job done. He finished with a -24 (264) total, squaring only three bogeys for the week, four ahead of runner-up Keegan Bradley. The 41 year old finished the week T1 for GIR, T13 for Driving Accuracy and T1 for Birdies shooting 27 in total.

In 2016, Justin Thomas successfully defended the title winning by three strokes from Hideki Matsuyama on a score of -23 (265). He finished the week T13 for both in GIR and Driving Accuracy.

In the 2015 edition of tournament Thomas shot a tournament record -26 (262) on his way to his first PGA Tour victory. That same year JT shot a course record, bogey free 61 in the second round which included 9 birdies and an eagle. A red-hot putter was key to success both years finishing T7 (2016) and 1st (2015) for Putts per Round.

In 2014 Ryan Moore emerged victorious for the second year running finishing with a score of -17(271). Moore ranked T8 for GIR, 4th for Putts per Round and 1st for Birdies shooting 24 in total. In 2013 he won with a score of -16(272) ranking T8, T9 and 1st for the same statistics respectively.

In a nutshell this week is all about racking up birdies and avoiding any unforced errors.
